Redditch Palace Theatre

a  history depicting a 107 year old little theatre with Big Entertainment!

Bertie Crewe

Bertie Crewe was born in London in 1864, was a famous theatre architect who designed or modifide over 54 theatres during his lifetime. Unfortunatly most of these 54 theatres that Bertie Crewe designed or modifide were demolished during the second World War and theatres wholly attributed to Bertie Crewe are now becoming increasingly very rare.

Bertie had Architectural offices in London and Paris . Most of the theatre's designed by Bertie Crewe during his lifetime are said to have some french connection to his theatre designs as his trips to France influenced him in the design process . It is also believed that he also designed the inside of some theatres .Later Bertie Crewe also designed cinemas.

Sadly the last theatre Bertie designed or modifide shortly before he died was the Saville Theatre in London . Bertie died on New Years Day in 1937 aged 74 after suffering Influenza, his remains were scattered in Goldes Green. These 5 theatres designed by Bertie Crewe can only be be wholly attributed to him as these theatres have remained largly untouched internally and externally without joint authorship .
